How old does someone have to get, to gain immunity for blood-guilt for being a part of JWs?
by King Solomon inthreads arise were elderly jw's are discussed, and we see thoughts that it's ok to be a jw if it makes them happy, or that it would be cruel to tell them ttatt after having spent their entire lives as a jw.. on the flip-side, other threads discuss teens who commit suicide after their immediate families (including their own grand-parents) shun them, as does everyone else in their kh.
the outrage rises to the point where the tendency is to accuse anyone who's a part of the organization of sharing in the blood-guilt.
that actually makes sense to me: jws claim that even being a cook in the military violates the neutrality principle, since it frees up someone else to carry a weapon; hence being a member of the military in any capacity is sharing in the blood-guilt.

Rules in the New System
by King Solomon inok, so even if laws are to be written on people's hearts vs spelled out into lawbooks, there's going to have to be some laws in the new system of things, right?
i say we get the ball rolling and brainstorm what they should be: after all, none of us got invited to the party anyway but since there just ain't going to be any party, why let that spoil our fun?
so, the theme is laws to be in effect in the new system.

A sure sign the End is Near....
by King Solomon inthe end of the month, that is, and someone apparently needs to get their hours in.... this resourceful jw (in the left side of the photo) set up shop for a few hours outside a local starbucks, with a wt and awake laid out on a table.
and i i don't think he talked to anyone the whole time he was out there (a few hours).. sure beats all that walking from door-to-door, which would likely result in a bunch of not-at-homes on a weekday: most people are at work.. (i approached him when entering, and asked him about the parable of faithful and "discreet" slave, and asked him what he thought the difference was between a parable and prophecy.
after getting a non-answer (that basically meant he didn't know), i wished him a good morning and went on my way.... .

YouTube and Fair Use exceptions
by King Solomon inthis is posted as information hopefully helpful for those who've posted sparlock videos, or other ip (intellectual property) which is owned by wtbts, and have received a dmca takedown notice from youtube (yt).. i host many vids on yt, and have much first-hand experience with the dreaded dmca takedown process, largely thanks to a video that was posted by me years ago that gets alot of traffic (currently 700k hits) and is subject to recurring take-downs notices from nbc universal (it is an snl skit that i use as a launching point for a discussion of the principles of sexual harrassment law.
nbc universal has a huge skyscraper in l.a./n.y., teeming with ip lawyers: this is what they do to earn their keep).
i've talked to ip lawyers, just to make sure i understood the process (which is easy to handle yourself).. disclaimer: i am not a lawyer: spend your own $$$ on legal advice, if you are in doubt.. the first thing to realize is that the takedown process largely is automated by yt, wherein content owners (networks, movie studios, corporations, etc) submit a dvd or video footage of their protected work(s), which is automatically screened against existing and uploaded yt user videos looking for a finger-print "match" of the footage.

Amish enjoy an unexpected boon in numbers
by King Solomon inthis cannot be encouraging to those calling for the downfall and demise of jws; notice how the increasing cultural rift encourages a growth in the amish community members.
will jws go the luddite route to avoid the threat of education and culture, or will they just continue with the "guarding your hearts" approach?.

Amish fringe group requests word 'cult' be banned from hate crime trial
by King Solomon inanother high-control bible-based religious group in the courts:.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/on-faith/members-of-fringe-amish-group-request-word-cult-be-banned-from-hate-crime-trial/2012/08/14/ae3c3ae0-e64e-11e1-9739-eef99c5fb285_story.html.
cleveland members of a fringe amish group charged with committing hate crimes against fellow amish have requested that certain words, including cult, splinter and rogue, be banned from their upcoming trial in u.s. district court, according to court documents filed monday (aug. 13).. they also requested that any amish called to testify affirm the truthfulness of their testimony rather than swear an oath because swearing an oath would offend the witness religious outlook.. samuel mullet, 66, of jefferson county, ohio, and 15 of his male and female followers are charged with hate crimes and cover-ups.

Perhaps the cruelest lie of all: resurrection of your loved ones
by King Solomon inof all the lies espoused by the wtbts, perhaps the most seductive, most cruel and downright evil, is to tell grieving people that their loved ones will be resurrected, and will rejoin them in a paradise earth, forever and ever.
of course, the easiest lie to be accepted is one that people want to believe.. but taking someone when they are at their weakest, their most vulnerable, and offering such a false hope is far more cruel than anything contained even in account of the first sin, with the serpent tempting eve with the forbidden fruit.
that was simply the serpent mucking up the divine plan by appealing to her ego: no harm, no foul.

If you are reading this title, everything you know needs to be questioned
by King Solomon inthe title of this thread is like one of those bumper stickers, "if you can read this, you are too close".
it's true: if you are reading this, you accepted certain assumptions in the past, or need to do so.. the jws deliver a well-honed message that is targeted to individuals who's prior experiences and psyche makes them pre-disposed to accept their version of reality; attending meetings is really just a way for individuals to correct their thinking so as to be more in accord with the beliefs of the group.
btw, the process of aligning one's thinking to a group is not inherent evil, eg doctors attend continuing education courses so they can stay abreast with their colleagues in new findings of research, thus enabling them to deliver the best possible care to their patients, not practicing using turn-of-the-century ideas (blood-sucking leeches, etc).. however, when it comes to religion and faith, accepting assumptions into one's world view without critically-analysis leads one to a conclusion that may be flawed.

The meaning of life, revealed
by King Solomon inmen have struggled with the same big questions since gaining self-awareness, millions of years ago, asking "what is the purpose of life?
" some have attempted to simply numb their brains to not feel the pain by turning to mythical and magical nepenthe-like substances; others have tried to fill in the uncomfortable gaps with religion, career, personal accomplishments, and so on.. i think no one has expressed the simple truth of the matter in words more eloquent, yet simple, than james taylor.
his song strikes me as a truth that is universal, honest, and more transcendent than any..... try not to try too hard.... .
